1. What Are Cookies & Local Storage?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. Similar technologies include HTML5 Local Storage and Session Storage. They help sites remember preferences, keep sessions secure, and support contextual or personalized advertising.

2. How TagEditor Uses Cookies & Local Storage

TagEditor operates strictly on a zero-upload architecture. All audio, image, video, PDF, document, and ebook manipulation happens entirely within your web browser’s memory (RAM). Cookies and local storage are used only for consent, preference, and advertising purposes described below — never to read or fingerprint the contents of your files.

• Strictly Necessary: We use local storage to record your cookie consent choices (see section 5 below) so you aren’t prompted on every page load. These are strictly required for compliance and cannot be disabled.
• Performance & Analytics: Anonymous, aggregated diagnostic counters (e.g. tracking whether a tag parse succeeded or failed) without transmitting file contents or personal identifiers.
• Advertising & Marketing: Third-party advertising platforms (such as Google AdSense) that serve relevant ads to support our free daily tier and operational hosting. These are only loaded after you grant marketing consent.

3. Google AdSense & Consent Mode v2

TagEditor implements Google Consent Mode v2. When you visit our website from regions requiring consent (such as the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland under the EU User Consent Policy), advertising and analytics cookies remain denied by default until you provide explicit consent.

If you accept advertising cookies, Google and its certified vendor partners may use cookies to serve personalized ads based on your visits to this and other websites. If you decline, Google serves only non-personalized or contextual advertisements that do not rely on past browsing profiles.

4. Consent Storage — LocalStorage Key & Persistence

Your CMP choice lives entirely in your browser. We use a single HTML5 LocalStorage entry named tageditor_cookie_consent_v1 to persist the three category decisions (necessary, analytics, marketing) plus the timestamp at which you last updated them.

• Purpose: remembers your consent so the CMP banner does not reappear on every visit, and so Google Consent Mode v2 signals remain accurate across pages and subdomains.
• Scope: this key holds consent metadata only — no tracking IDs, no behavioural profiling, no reference to the files you process.
• Lifetime: the entry persists for 12 months from your last update, in line with CNIL guidance. After that, or if you manually clear site data, you will be re-prompted.
• Removal: clearing browser storage, clicking Reject all in the CMP, or revoking a specific category immediately overwrites the entry. You can verify what is stored by opening your browser DevTools → Application → Local Storage → tageditor.app.

5. How to Manage and Revoke Consent

You can change your consent preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Preferences (CMP)" link located in our footer, the floating shield button in the bottom-left corner of the screen, or the button above on this page.
